Cheryl Dore

Community Development Manager - Grants and Special Funding

We are thrilled to introduce Cheryl Dore as the newest member of our Canadian Horizons team at RISEC, where she will take on the crucial role of Grant and Special Funding Writer. Cheryl brings a wealth of experience in research ethics, social sciences, and project management, making her an invaluable asset to our team.

Cheryl’s background is rooted in a strong academic foundation, with a Master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Athabasca University, where her thesis focused on systemic racism in research ethics. This critical lens on research ethics not only highlights her commitment to equity but also positions her to ensure that all funding opportunities align with our organizational values and mission.

In her previous role as a Community Research Coordinator & Analyst for the Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council, Cheryl demonstrated her ability to manage complex research initiatives across multiple departments. She was instrumental in developing policies and overseeing the Research Ethics Committee, ensuring that all research adhered to ethical standards while meeting community needs. Her experience in creating and maintaining a research database further underscores her capability to handle data-intensive projects, a skill that will be highly beneficial in her new role.

Cheryl’s expertise in grant writing is particularly noteworthy. She has led the sourcing and writing of grants to support community-led ventures, showcasing her ability to secure essential funding for projects that drive positive change. Her approach is both strategic and inclusive, ensuring that the funding opportunities she identifies and pursues are well-aligned with broader organizational goals.

Additionally, Cheryl’s experience extends to health research coordination, where she has successfully designed policies, extracted research themes, and presented analytical outcomes to senior leadership. Her ability to liaise effectively with project leads and ensure adherence to research principles like OCAP (Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession) is a testament to her comprehensive understanding of the research process.

Cheryl’s multidisciplinary expertise, combined with her passion for equity and community-focused research, makes her an excellent fit for the role of Grant and Special Funding Writer. We are confident that her contributions will be pivotal in advancing our mission at RISEC, and we look forward to the innovative approaches she will bring to securing funding and driving forward our projects.
