Role Overview

RISEC Community Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the successful transition of newcomers in Canada, providing them with the resources, guidance, and support they need for settlement, education, and career success. Our goal is to foster a welcoming and inclusive community for all newcomers.

Position Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Managing Editor to assist the Chief Editor in planning, organizing, and executing tasks related to the launch and ongoing publication of our upcoming magazine. The magazine will serve as a platform for sharing stories, insights, and resources related to the newcomer experience in Canada. This is a crucial volunteer role that will require strong organizational skills, excellent communication, and a passion for storytelling.

Responsibilities

  • Content Planning: Collaborate with the Chief Editor to develop a content calendar, identify themes for each issue, and assign tasks to contributors.
  • Contributor Coordination: Assist in managing relationships with writers, photographers, and other contributors. Ensure deadlines are met and content is delivered on time.
  • Editing and Proofreading: Review submitted content for accuracy, coherence, and consistency. Provide feedback to contributors and ensure final content is polished.
  • Project Management: Oversee the workflow of the magazine production, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently and according to schedule.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the design and marketing teams to ensure content aligns with the magazine’s visual style and promotional strategy.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that all content meets the organization’s standards and aligns with its mission and values.
  • Reporting: Maintain clear and consistent communication with the Chief Editor regarding the progress of magazine production and any challenges or concerns.

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in editing, proofreading, or content creation is preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with diverse teams and contributors.
  • Passion for supporting newcomers and immigrants.
  • Knowledge of or experience in the non-profit sector is a plus.
  • Ability to commit to a flexible schedule, with a minimum time commitment of [number] hours per week.
