About the 1000 Seeds Initiative:
The 1000 Seeds Initiative is a transformative program by RISEC Community Foundation designed to help 1000 newcomers each year secure professional careers in Canada. We recognize the challenges that newcomers face when integrating into a new country, and our goal is to provide the support and resources needed to turn those challenges into opportunities. Through a structured four-phase approach, we guide participants from preparation to employment, ensuring they are equipped for success in their new home.
Position Overview
We are seeking experienced and currently employed or recently retired professionals in the Trades industry in Alberta to serve as Volunteer Career Mentors for our 1000 Seeds Initiative. Mentors will provide invaluable guidance and support to newcomers, helping them navigate the Alberta trades industry, understand the certification process, and secure employment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide mentorship and guidance to newcomers seeking employment in the Trades industry in Alberta.
- Share insights into the Alberta trades industry, including job market trends, employer expectations, and best practices.
- Explain and guide mentees through the certification process for Trades professionals in Alberta.
- Offer practical advice and support to help mentees improve their skills and professional development.
- Provide input to the Case Manager on mentee progress and areas for improvement.
- Maintain regular communication with mentees (minimum 2 hours per week).
- Commit to mentoring mentees until they secure employment in the Trades industry.
Qualifications:
- Currently employed or recently retired from the Trades industry in Alberta.
- In-depth understanding of the certification process for Trades professionals in Alberta.
- Willingness and ability to share insights and provide guidance to newcomers.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to mentoring a newcomer until they are employed.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback to mentees and the Case Manager.
