About the 1000 Seeds Initiative:
The 1000 Seeds Initiative is a transformative program by RISEC Community Foundation designed to help 1000 newcomers each year secure professional careers in Canada. We recognize the challenges that newcomers face when integrating into a new country, and our goal is to provide the support and resources needed to turn those challenges into opportunities. Through a structured four-phase approach, we guide participants from preparation to employment, ensuring they are equipped for success in their new home.
Position Overview
We are seeking passionate and experienced Career Advisors to join our 1000 Seeds Initiative, with a specific focus on supporting newcomers in the Trades industry in Alberta. This volunteer position will provide crucial career guidance and support to newcomers, helping them navigate the Alberta job market and secure professional careers in the Trades.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one career counseling and advising to program participants, with a focus on those seeking employment in the Trades industry in Alberta.
- Assist participants with resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, and job search strategies specific to Trades roles in Alberta.
- Conduct workshops and training sessions on career development topics relevant to the Trades industry in Alberta.
- Connect participants with potential employers and networking opportunities within the Trades sector in Alberta.
- Monitor and track participant progress and provide ongoing support.
- Collaborate with the Program Manager and other team members to ensure program effectiveness.
Qualifications:
- Professional experience in career counseling, human resources, recruitment, or a related field, ideally with a focus on the Trades industry.
- Strong understanding of the Alberta job market, particularly within the Trades.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Passion for helping newcomers succeed, particularly in the Trades.
- Ability to commit to a flexible schedule, with a minimum time commitment of 5 hours per week.
Assets:
- Knowledge of the specific requirements and qualifications for Trades professions in Alberta.
- Direct experience working in the Trades industry in Alberta.
- Existing network of contacts within the Trades sector in Alberta.
