Role Overview

RISEC Community Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the successful transition of newcomers in Canada, providing them with the resources, guidance, and support they need for settlement, education, and career success. Our goal is to foster a welcoming and inclusive community for all newcomers.

Position Description

We are seeking passionate and dedicated volunteer Ethnic Community Content Writers to contribute to our organization’s magazine. The magazine serves as a vital platform for sharing information, stories, and experiences specific to different ethnic communities in Canada. As an Ethnic Community Content Writer, you will represent your cultural background and write articles that reflect the unique needs, challenges, and achievements of your community. You will also have the opportunity to share insights into cultural events, traditions, and resources that are important to your ethnic group.

Responsibilities

  • Research, write, and edit articles that highlight topics relevant to your ethnic community’s experiences in Canada, including cultural traditions, community events, challenges, and success stories.
  • Collaborate with the editorial team to develop article ideas and ensure that content is accurate, engaging, and culturally sensitive.
  • Conduct interviews within your community to gather personal stories, insights, and perspectives to share with our readers.
  • Stay informed about current events, trends, and issues affecting your ethnic community in Canada and incorporate relevant topics into your writing.
  • Ensure that all content respects the diversity and inclusivity of our readership and aligns with the organization’s mission and values.
  • Adhere to established deadlines for article submission and editing.
  • Participate in regular meetings with the editorial team to discuss content strategy, planning, and feedback.

Qualifications

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce clear, engaging, and culturally relevant content.
  • Deep understanding and connection to your ethnic community, with the ability to represent its perspectives and experiences authentically.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to conduct interviews and build relationships within your community.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • A passion for supporting newcomers from diverse ethnic backgrounds and a commitment to promoting cultural understanding and inclusion.
  • Previous experience in writing, journalism, or community advocacy is preferred, but not required.
